Networking is about more than meeting new people. It’s about developing relationships and expanding your tribe. Whether it’s through in-person or virtual outreach, simple actions enable you to stay in touch and top of mind.
Throughout November, I am posting a daily networking tip on social media. Below is the next batch of tips.
Tip 16: Listen to Podcasts. A great way to expand your community is to appear on other people’s podcasts. Listen to shows in your area of expertise. Then, for shows you feel might be a fit, leave a review, follow the hosts, start developing rapport. That way, your name will be recognizable are on their radar, when it’s time to pitch yourself.
Tip 17: Break Bread. November 17 is National Homemade Bread Day! Of course there’s a #networking angle! Share a meal with someone.
Tip 18: Make a Request. A great way to get on someone’s radar is to ask for something. It can be for a recommendation, an intro, a resource. You can do the request via message – especially if it’s someone you want to reconnect with or something targeted/specific – or post it on social media.
Tip 19: Say “Hi!” Send a “Hi, How are you?” text or message to 3 friends or peers. And let the conversation develop from there.
Tip 20: Offer an Intro. Look through your feed to find a connection who is making a request. Now, see how you can help. Sometimes the best thing you can do is introduce that person to the right resource. Check with both parties before making the connection/doing an email or LinkedIn intro.
Tip 21: Make a New Friend. Reach out to someone you met at a recent networking or educational event – someone you really clicked with – and arrange a time for a Zoom coffee. Ask them what they are working on and see if there’s a way you can support their efforts. And let the conversation, and relationship, grow from there!
Tip 22: Give yourself a break! You have been doing a fabulous job of networking. Remember to give yourself a day off every once in a while.
Who did you meet or reconnect with this week?
