Creating content is a great way to network. It’s a conversation starter, engagement, and information all rolled into one.
I am posting a daily networking tip on social media throughout the month. Below are my next five tips.
Tip 11: Follow potential allies, partners, and interviewees. Go to your favorite social networking platform, and start following the people on your wish list. The best way to get on someone else’s radar is to become part of their community. This is the first step.
Tip 12: Comment on three posts. Remember the people on your wish list that you followed yesterday? Choose three and write a thoughtful comment on at least one post from each of them. Be sure to check back and respond to replies.
Tip 13: Share someone else’s post or article. Social media is all about being social … and also being a resources to your community: friends, followers, prospects, and clients.
Share a piece of content from one of your allies, something that will be helpful for your community. When you post, tag the person and/or company. And add your thoughts/why people need to read it/in what ways it is helpful.
Tip 14: Ask to interview someone. One of the benefits of being a content creator – blogger, vlogger, podcaster – is that you have a platform to share other people’s ideas and expertise.
Email or message a peer to see if they would be up for being interviewed. Bonus points for reaching out to someone who is on your wish list. If that feels too intimidating, see who you know in common and ask for an intro. You never know what will result from any interaction. If you don’t ask, the answer is always “No.”
Tip 15: Write a Round-up. Pose a question to your network on social media or via message, and put the answer into a round-up blog post or directly on social media.
The idea is to gather responses from influencer/leaders in your field and share the info as a value-add to your and their communities. Be sure to take everyone mentioned when you share and also respond to any comments and re-posts.
What is your focus/topic/expertise? Who are the others in your specialty that you would like to meet?
